We offer beautiful walnut lumber for your hardwood projects
At Hunski Hardwoods we carry a large selection of walnut lumber, much of which is not listed on our site. Walnut is recognized as one of the finest North American lumber species. Our walnut lumber is used for a number of purposes.Walnut is often used in making fine furniture including bed frames, dining table and chairs, coffee tables, desks, dressers, and more. Walnut is also perfect for building cabinetry, architectural millwork, flooring, outdoor construction, and timber framing. Walnut (along with Cherry and Mahogany) is often used in Early American furniture as well.
The walnut tree is hardy and shade tolerant. It can grow to be quite large in both height and width. Walnut is a superior lumber producer for several reasons. The trunks grow straight and clear, and they typically yield a high percentage of FAS lumber. FAS stands for First and Seconds. Hardwood lumber is graded using the rules established by the National Hardwood Lumber Association. FAS is the highest lumber grade, while No. 3B Common is the lowest grade. A board is graded on both sides, and the worst side determines the grade. Another way of determining grade is FAS-1F, which means that the best face is of FAS quality and the other face may be of lesser quality. FAS grade means that there are 83 1/3% to 100% clear wood cuttings over the entire surface of the board. The fewer the defects, the higher the grade and value of the wood.
