What to do when you have a tree that is looking unhealthy:
Do you know what to do when you have a tree that is looking sickly? A sick tree that is undiagnosed could go on to kill other surrounding trees. Or it could fall, causing damage to people or property. When you notice any of these symptoms you will want to call in an expert to determine what is wrong, and how to safely deal with it.
If your tree has poor structure, it can be in danger of falling. If a tree is leaning or has an odd shape, you need to take action.
If your tree has decay it’s also a problem. It can very hard to see decay, because it usually affects the inside of the tree first. When symptoms become visible it looks like mushroom-type spores, dead branches, or soft breakable wood.
Weak unions or joints are another sign of an endangered tree. This is apparent when your branches don’t look very attached to the tree. Weak branches could fall at any time.
A canker on a tree is caused by bacteria/fungi that have infected a tree through an open wound. Once inside, it attacks the tree and causes a canker. This can sometimes be pruned off the tree.
Another symptom of a sick or dying tree is deadwood.
All of these symptoms should serve as warnings that you must take action, either to save your tree or to have it taken down for safety’s sake. Find out more about what becomes of salvaged walnut trees.
