We recently received a called from Mr.Overhouse about a “huge” Black Walnut tree he had in his yard that he needed removed. Typically when someone calls and says they have a huge tree it, it ends up not living up to that word. Mr.Overhouses’ tree definitley did not disappoint, it was HUGE in every sense of the word. The tree was originally planted in 1866 by Mr.Morris who originally settled the homestead. He moved here from back east to strike it rich in the gold rush, unfortunately it didn’t pan out like he had hoped. He decided he needed to do something different so he moved to what is now called Woodland because the soil was very rich and desirable for planting crops. Mr.Morris built himself a beautiful victorian home on the property in 1868 that is still in use to this day. The property stayed in the Morris family for over 120 years until the home was lost in bankruptcy. That is when Mr.Overhouse fell in love with the property and decided to make it his. He had every intention of letting the tree live out its life for many more years to come. Sadly about 6 months ago a branch from 100′ in the air fell and smashed the front of his barn. The branch did thousands of dollars in damage and with many more dead branches looming, he knew it was time for the local icon to come out. We were thrilled to be apart of a tree with such rich history. In total we salvaged over 70,ooo lbs of wood. The main trunk weighed in at 30,000lbs and will yield HUGE beautiful live edge slabs.
