In 2011 we were driving around looking for dead branches on trees and we came across a huge walnut tree that we had to drive up to and take a look at. Upon further inspection of the tree we noticed that one whole side was completely dead. We knew if we did not find a way to salvage it that the whole tree would end up dying and rotting. We were determined to not let that happen. We finally made contact with the owner and told them what we do, but he was not ready to let this treasure go. As it turns out his grandpa planted the tree during the early 1900’s so there were a lot of memories of him playing in the tree when he was younger. Two years had passed and further decay of the tree had occurred, when the owner finally contacted us to let us come harvest his tree. We could not t have been more excited. During those 2 years that had passed someone tried to burn the tree down by lighting a fire in a hollow cave that had formed at the base. Luckily it did not do much harm. The log ended up measuring 67”-70” wide by 10’long. We will be milling up this beauty in the next few months, so we can pass on the legacy of this tree to our customers. There is just so much character and life to this tree and we were so blessed to be able to reclaim it.
