We have a friend in Fort Bragg who has hundreds of acres of old growth Redwood forest. Back in the early 1900’s the old timers came through and logged the land and took with them the trees that were clear and left the defective ones. These slabs came from one of the trees that were left because it was not suitable for their needs back then. The log sat for 100 years before being milled into slabs. We counted the rings and estimated that the tree was 400 years old when it was originally fell. The history of the Old Growth Redwood is mind boggling. You can see these beautiful slabs here.
